Mary Ripper Baker

Mary is the owner of Motion Studies and is a Certified Pilates Instructor. She was introduced to the methods of Joseph H. Pilates, Laban Movement Analysis, and Bartenieff Fundamentals during her training at Texas Christian University where she earned a BFA in Modern Dance. Mary started teaching Pilates at the Eastside Studio (Pilates Concepts) in her hometown of Houston. She continued her studies with teachers trained by Romana Krysanowska, an original disciple of Joseph Pilates and designer of the original Physical Mind Institute curriculum. Upon arriving in Colorado Springs and training with Gail Gustafson and Jeff Bickford, she completed her advanced certification in ‘Art of Movement’ observation techniques, analyses and fundamental movement patterning as applied to the system of Joseph H. Pilates. Mary’s wealth of Pilates knowledge grows as she continues her education with teachers from Stott, Polestar, BASI, and Balanced Body University to name a few.

Mary is also a professional dancer and teacher with an extensive knowledge of anatomical/kinesthetic principles which allow her to bring a keen understanding of movement to her work. Mary began teaching dance in 1989 and has experience teaching all levels from beginners to professionals and Olympic athletes. Her experience offers students a variety of teaching techniques that helps them fully appreciate their bodies in motion.

Along with owning and operating Motion Studies since 2000, Mary performs with Ormao Dance Company, is adjunct dance faculty at Pikes Peak Community College, choreographs for the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center Theatre Company, and is the proud mother of two.

what our clients are saying

  1. “I am deeply impressed with Mary’s ability to diagnose what my body needs to be stronger, more flexible and toned. The exercises she has given me and the care and personal attention with which she instructs have awed me with the physical changes I am now seeing and feeling each day. I am a senior and Mary has helped me find an energetic and limber body I thought was lost forever.”
